40TH ANNUAL MINI-FEST
The 40th Annual Mini-Fest was a resounding success! The weekend was very busy at all of the events. In fact there were so many people we actually sold out of Mini-Fest Buttons by mid-afternoon on Saturday! Friday night the kids enjoyed a family skate with Swampy with hot chocolate and music provided by the Youth Group. Skating room was tight especially for Swampy as the kids helped him skate around the ice. Others stayed warm with Progressive Euchre in the Community Centre with around 50 people competing for fun and a few prizes. Saturday started off early with a delicious pancake breakfast in the Community Centre. The kitchen made it through the big rush mid-morning with only a little delay and everyone was able to enjoy a great breakfast. Awards were handed out to the winners of the Bookmark Contest and Colouring Contest followed by the presentations of Youth and Citizen of the Year. Thanks to Springwater Mayor, Linda Collins, Ward 3 Councillor Rick Webster, Ward 1 Councillor Dan Clement and Simcoe County Warden Cal Patterson for attending the presentation. An extra special congratulations to the 2012 Youth of the Year, Allison VanderWeilen and 2012 Citizen of the Year, Debbie Giffen!! The parade following was also well attended even given the cold weather. Thanks to the OPP and Springwater Fire and Emergency Services for leading the parade and to all of the mascots that attended the parade, Lionel from Boston Pizza Wasaga Beach, Bud from Snow Valley, Sleepy from Travelodge and Cool Cat from the Barrie Baycats! A special thanks to Donna Johnston, Minesing's resident Mini-Fest Button hoarder, for showing tremendous community spirit in showing off all of the buttons/ribbons from Mini-Fests past. Our first silent auction was a huge success with many bidding battles over all of the items right through to the end of the Saturday Night Dance. Auction winners will be notified shortly by telephone of their wins! The Saturday night dance was a huge success with over 100 people enjoying the sounds of The Hired Help. Everyone had a great time dancing into the wee hours to be greeted by a big blast off winter from Mother Nature!
